IP Finance is an International Issue

Thursday 31 January - United Kingdom

IP finance is a growing international issue within practice and worries are being voiced surrounding the United Nations plans to simplify the law to make it easier for securitisation of IP.

Yesterday marked the first meeting of the IP finance group (a gathering of concerned IP professionals) to tackle the issues surrounding the UNCITRAL legislative guide on the centralisation of IP. Eva Lehnert, legal advisor at the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry gave a short and concise description of the current state the UNCITRAL legislative guide and asked her colleagues for their input. Ben Goodger from Rouse & Co expanded on the topic, relaying his recent lobbying experiences.

Jeremy Philips of Olswang, who chaired the meeting, has been vocal on this topic for some time and is urging people to get involved by discussing problems they are having and suggesting possible solutions.

If you have any comments or would like to hear more on the topic, a blog has been set up at http://ipfinance.blogspot.com.
